It's pretty exciting to see your book translated into other languages, even if you can't read them.

I'd like to donate them to a High School or College. Would anyone in academia like a Chinese or Spanish translated copy of our book? I'd prefer to hear from people who instruct New Media or IT courses, or is involved with a school's library.

I will only ship these to a school address. No home addresses. No student dorms and housing. Please email me at aircmr "@" nobien.net.

Back on the 25th of April, I posted a little something about us (Matt & me ... and Toddly Anderson) releasing a certain book entitled Adobe AIR, Create-Modify-Reuse, published by Wiley & Sons.

Well, at that time, MXNA was down, so only a few regular viewers saw it. So I figured I'd just throw it out there again that our book came out. It's a book featuring eleven applications that you can use "out of the box" and hopefully use to create your own rendition using Adobe Flex 3 and AIR. If you do create your own app based on ours, or found the book useful in guiding your own creation, we encourage you to tell us about it.

Also, you should pick up the Flex 3 Cookbook by friends Josh Noble and Toddly Anderson (again). Another book (that will be awesome) is Adobe AIR in Action and was written by my old co-workers Joey Lott, Katheryn Rotondo, Sam Ahn and Ash Atkins (also the tech-editor of our book).

So now that you're about $80 in the hole, I'll let you be.

After a year of neglect, we have finally revamped our blog. This new look will hopefully pressure us (more so, me) into posting more.

One main reason why we haven't been updating this site as much within the past year is that we've been working on Adobe AIR: Create-Modify-Reuse (or just Adobe AIR: CMR). I know we have posted some info about this in the past, but I we're pretty excited since it's finally coming out.

Adobe CMR was written by Todd Anderson and the two of us (Matt & Marc). Additional support for the book included our editor, Brian Hermann and technical editor, Ash Atkins.

The book is a learn-by-example guide to AIR. It is in no way a reference manual. However, if you find that you learn better by building, but don't necessarily know where to start, this is for you. Adobe AIR CMR takes you through eleven sample applications that you can modify and call your own. All together, I believe the book came together really well and is something we are all proud of. If you so happen to pick it up, we hope that you enjoy it.

I haven't been up on posting lately, mainly because Matt Wright, Todd Anderson and I have been in a lock down trying to get the our book, Adobe AIR Create-Modify-Reuse, ready for publishing. As of last night, we reached our goal. The book is written and is placed on the back-burner for a while.

Apparently it now goes to Wiley (publisher) for in-house reviews, style changes, etc. We'll see the book again before it's finished. As it is, Adobe AIR/Flex 3 hasn't gone gold yet, and we'll probably have to update our code one final time when that happens. We will most likely have to change applicationDirectory back to applicationResourceDirectory or someting new like nativeApplicationDirectory.

Either way, thank you Matt, Todd and Brian (our editor) for your help with our book. Everyone should stay tuned as to when it will actually be released.

As you can probably assume from the general latency between posts, things have been pretty busy around here. Marc and I (and Todd) have been hard at work on our book for Wiley. We had not mentioned the title of the book prior, but now that the book is available for pre-order on Amazon, its safe to announce it. The book is titled AIR Instant Results. It has been a major work in progress the past few months as the alpha and beta releases of Apollo/AIR have changed a bit and at times did not deliver the functionality we assumed it might have. Alas, the book should hopefully be available not too long after AIR is officially released to the public.

The book is a "by example" book and each chapter teaches you how to create a different application using AIR within the Flex framework. It should be a great place to start learning about AIR if you have some experience with Flex already. The applications, for the most part, are not too complicated and be a good stepping stone into making your own versions of the same applications, or even spur some inspiration for applications of your own.

After working with AIR for the past few months, I have to admit, I'm very pleased with the direction the developers at Adobe are taking it in. Initially I had doubts about just how useful it would be. I had used MDM Zinc quite a bit at my previous job, and I had a feeling it was going to be similar, but I was completely wrong. Given the functionality that has been implemented so far, and the rumors of future additions, I can safely say that AIR will definitely be a useful technology that developers should consider learning and using. Surprisingly, there's already an initiative to start using the beta runtime over at Pownce. I personally have not used Pownce yet, but its nice to see it being put to good use. Marc and I have even tossed around the idea of whipping up our own application at some point, but not until we finish this book. So be on the look out!
